He cannot change the doctrine of the Church and must not invent or alter the discipline of the Church in an arbitrary way. He governs the Church collegially with his brother bishops in local dioceses. And he always does so in faithful continuity with the Word of God and the teaching of the Church.” The indications for the new Pope almost all start from criticism of the current one. For example, Demos II argued that “ambiguity is neither evangelical nor welcoming. On the contrary, it fuels doubt and schismatic impulses” and then made it clear that “doctrinal questions are not burdens imposed by insensitive ‘doctors of the law'”.
