On January 1st Iran began the process of producing 20 percent enriched uranium at its Fordow underground nuclear plant. This is a breach of the Teheran 2015 nuclear pact which only allows uranium to be enriched up to 3.67%. According to Prime Minister Netanyahu this action makes it clear that Iran intends to develop nuclear weapons.
Iran has violated the 2015 nuclear deal more than once already. 2019 saw Iran first breach the pact when they began enriching uranium up to 4.5% and collecting a stockpile of enriched uranium larger than the deal allowed. The initial violations were Iran’s response to the United States leaving the Teheran pact and imposing new sanctions on Tehran.
Israeli newspaper Haaretz reports that Iran has enough enriched uranium to produce at least two nuclear weapons. Iran is now closer to developing a nuclear weapon within six months. The Israeli government has taken note of Iran’s preparations and will do everything in its power to keep the people of Israel safe.
Health Passport Exempts Covid Rules
A demo version of the “green passport app” for Israelis was released and presented at a Knesset meeting on Monday. This app will allow Israelis who have received both shots of the COVID-19 vaccine to go to concerts and sports events travel outside of Israel without quarantining and enjoy other advantages. Israel’s Foreign Ministry is looking into creating a form of this ‘green passport’ as an international document that could spare Israelis from quarantining when they go abroad.
Setting up the app is a straightforward process.The app states on the home screen that it will tell you if there is any risk of COVID-19 nearby. You are asked if you are in
a high-risk category such as someone with a chronic illness or someone elderly. The app informs you if the city that you are currently in is considered “red” “yellow” or “green” based on the number of COVID-19 cases in your area. You also learn how many people have been vaccinated that day. The app asks if you have been vaccinated against or have been sick with COVID-19 and you fill out a screen with personal information such as your identification number and name. A code sent to your phone confirms if you have been vaccinated or tested recently and are considered “green”.
There will be a non-digital version of this app available for those who do not own smartphones. This innovation will allow Israeli society to open up more than it has been enabling an economic recovery while keeping Israelis safe and sane.
