For years now, the New York Times op-ed pages have been one-sidedly anti-Israel. Its reporting has often been provably false, and all the errors tend to favor Israel’s enemies.
Most recently, the New York Times published an op-ed declaring, on Easter Sunday, that the crucified Jesus was probably a Palestinian. How absurd. How preposterous. How predictable.

Imagine if the New York Times cartoon that depicted Israel’s Prime Minister as a dog had, instead, depicted the leader of another ethnic or gender group in a similar manner? If you think that is hard to imagine that you are absolutely right. It would be inconceivable for a Times editor to have allowed the portrayal of a Muslim leader as a dog; or the leader of any other ethnic or gender group in so dehumanizing a manner.
What is it then about Jews that allowed such a degrading cartoon about one of its leaders? One would think that in light of the history of the Holocaust, which is being commemorated this week, the last group that a main stream newspaper would demonize by employing a caricature right out of the Nazi playbook, would be the Jews. China’s ambassador to Ankara, Deng Li, diplomatically showed Turkey the most frightening stick. Deng told Reuters: “If you choose a non-constructive path, it will negatively affect mutual trust and understanding and will be reflected in commercial and economic relations.”
It was a shock to the Turkish president to wake up the other day and learn that the genocide suspect whom he embraced as “brother”, President Omar al-Bashir of Sudan, had been ousted by a coup d’état.

“World leaders hail Erdoğan on local vote win,” the news headline ran, referring to the outcome of Turkey’s local elections on March 31. They laboriously ignored that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s Islamist AKP party lost in all of Turkey’s three biggest cities — and for the first time in 25 years in Ankara and Istanbul. They were nevertheless able to find one element to hail regarding Turkey’s strongman. But, “world leaders?”
Here is the full list: Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, tripartite Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Chairman Milorad Dodik, former Bosniak member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bakir Izetbegovic, Guinean President Alpha Conde, and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Those gentlemen are “world leaders,” according to Erdoğan’s propaganda machinery.

Just a little more than ten years ago, Finland’s flagship telecommunications company, Nokia, was found to have sold to Tehran surveillance technology, which was used a year later to suppress dissident demonstrators’ use of social media.
“[T]here are two documented instances where [the Finnish company] Cargotec-tied cranes have been used for public executions.” — United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) press release.
How Finland behaves today is eerily reminiscent of its behavior with the Soviet Union during the Cold War. During that time, Finnish politicians, academics and journalists practiced self-censorship. They knew whom not to talk about, let alone criticize. Today it is criticism of Islam that is aggressively prosecuted under the guise of combating “hate-speech” or “disparaging of religious groups”. It is the same M.O., just a different place and time.

There is a special saying in Finland describing a person’s naïvety: it is called being “blue-eyed”. Unfortunately, there is not a saying that describes the same trait for an entire political class.
Successive Finnish governments could be accurately described as extremely “blue-eyed,” especially during the last decade or so in their relations with Iran.
Part of the problem seems to lie with Finnish politicians, who seem truly to believe that having a dialogue — any dialogue — regardless of who is on the opposite side of the table, is better than having no dialogue at all. So you can easily end up with the equivalent of a businessman trying to reach an agreement with Al Capone, while each holds completely different assumptions about the underlying terms of an agreement, including whether agreements are even meant to be kept.

Solo poco più di dieci anni fa, la società di telecomunicazioni di punta della Finlandia, Nokia, è stata trovata venduta alla tecnologia di sorveglianza di Teheran, che è stata utilizzata un anno dopo per sopprimere l’uso dei social media da parte dei manifestanti dissidenti.

Come si comporta oggi la Finlandia ricorda stranamente il suo comportamento con l’Unione Sovietica durante la Guerra Fredda. Durante quel periodo, politici, accademici e giornalisti finlandesi praticavano l’autocensura. Sapevano di chi non parlare, per non parlare di criticare. Oggi è una critica all’Islam che viene perseguita in modo aggressivo con il pretesto di combattere “incitamento all’odio” o “denigrazione di gruppi religiosi”. È lo stesso M.O., solo un posto e un orario diversi.

C’è un detto speciale in Finlandia che descrive l’ingenuità di una persona: si chiama “occhi azzurri”. Sfortunatamente, non c’è un detto che descriva lo stesso tratto per un’intera classe politica.
I successivi governi finlandesi potrebbero essere accuratamente descritti come estremamente “con gli occhi azzurri”, specialmente nell’ultimo decennio circa nei loro rapporti con l’Iran.
Una parte del problema sembra dipendere dai politici finlandesi, che sembrano davvero credere che avere un dialogo – qualsiasi dialogo – indipendentemente da chi si trovi sul lato opposto del tavolo, è meglio che non avere alcun dialogo. In questo modo si può facilmente ritrovare l’equivalente di un uomo d’affari che cerca di raggiungere un accordo con Al Capone, mentre ognuno di essi ha assunto ipotesi completamente diverse sui termini sottostanti di un accordo, incluso se gli accordi devono essere mantenuti.

A Day of Joy
A story goes about a small church in a local town, a certain devoted member of the church on his way from church at the end of the evening services, often stops at a local family store in the same area to get a bottle of water on his way to the bus stop.
On this certain day, the church witnessed 4 new attendants, it was a family, comprising the of a man, his wife and two children. Delighted to have them, the church recognized them and gave them a warm reception after getting them to briefly introduce themselves. The provision was not made for the family to give their experience of how they ended up with the church that day, but the man, eager to narrate their story, requested to say something and was gladly given the air to tell his story.
“I belong to a local gang here in our town, he said. I have never been a churchgoer and never believed in church matters myself. The woman with me is my wife and our two children with us here. Living in this small town without adequate jobs, we make a living from the small shop that we have in our house. Recently we sent one of our children to college, this greatly impacted on the state of our shop so much that as provisions got finishing, there was no apparent way for us to replace them because there was no money left in shop account to purchase more goods. The family has been affected by this and there has been no visible help in sight to make up for the situation. But a certain member of your church, who stops by our shop on many occasions from the church to get a bottle of water eventually noticed the dropping state of the shop, he enquired and eventually knew what was happening. Exactly one week before now, the same man came to my wife while I was not around, and he got the shop filled up with fresh provisions again to the level that it had never been before. I was speechless when I came back and got to see this & also when I heard what my wife told me about it. For the first time in so many years I found it hard to sleep in 7 days, after I got to speak with this man myself and heard the driving force behind his action to us – learning from him that he only acted based on the culture of brotherliness and discipline that his church had impacted in him. He has changed not only the life of a man, a woman and our children, but the hope of an entire generation has been touched today. As I live my entire life both as a man and as a family, I have never myself done anything this honourable, neither have I receive such treatment and help as this from anyone before. He did not invite me to come here and testify after he did this, from what I observed, he did it and forgot about it. But I’m here today to testify of this, both to this church and to the God that you teach. I could not also help but come here with my whole family to witness for myself the kind of church that does this. This kept me alone for some days now because a strong burden was put on me and I could not have peace until I came here, now that I’m here, the experience here feels like another family that I have somewhere which I never met before. I stand here to confess that there is an unusual peace in my life, such as I have never felt before and your reception to us is killing me. And I want to say this, that as a family and myself, we want to officially become members of this church and this great family that we never met on time, please, accept us unto your numbers. On behalf of my family, I give thanks to God, I give thanks to this man from this church that reached out to us, and I give thanks to the God that is worshipped here”.
The church was filled with joy and celebration because of what God used that young man to do in their midst. The worship songs & hymns that were sung to celebrate God for His mighty works, were soul touching & mind moving, many were moved to tears in the church assembly that day, even after they went home, the resounding impact of what they felt in church on that particular day could never be distinguished from their minds. It was a day of Joy. Everyone went home with so much peace within them, it was the peace that would last with them forever because the story would forever remain in their minds. News of this spread around fast & many more people joined the church the following week, revival had come to the small town by that single move by a brother – this is how God achieves His purposes, out of a little or nothing – the little you do today is not too small, it can move mountains.
The story above is neither a true live story nor an experience that I had myself in life, it is a story I carefully put together myself just like a parable for the purpose of illustration, in order to enable you to have a clear expression of the nature of my message to you today.
Un giorno di gioia
Una storia racconta di una piccola chiesa in una città locale, un certo devoto membro della chiesa che va dalla chiesa alla fine dei servizi serali, spesso si ferma in un negozio di famiglia nella stessa zona per prendere una bottiglia d’acqua la sua strada verso la fermata dell’autobus.
In quel determinato giorno, la chiesa fu testimone di 4 nuovi assistenti, era una famiglia, composta da un uomo, sua moglie e due figli. Felici di averli, la chiesa li ha riconosciuti e li ha accolti calorosamente dopo averli fatti presentare brevemente. La disposizione non prevedeva che la famiglia potesse esprimere la propria esperienza su come si ritrovarono con la chiesa quel giorno, ma l’uomo, desideroso di raccontare la loro storia, chiese di dire qualcosa e fu volentieri dato l’aria per raccontare la sua storia.
“Appartengo a una banda locale qui nella nostra città, ha detto. Non sono mai stato un fedele e non ho mai creduto nelle cose di chiesa. La donna con me è mia moglie e i nostri due figli con noi qui. Vivendo in questa piccola città senza posti di lavoro adeguati, ci guadagniamo da vivere dal piccolo negozio che abbiamo in casa nostra. Recentemente abbiamo mandato uno dei nostri figli all’università, questo ha avuto un forte impatto sullo stato del nostro negozio così tanto che quando le provviste sono finite, non c’era un modo evidente per sostituirle perché non c’erano più soldi nel negozio per acquistare più beni . La famiglia è stata colpita da questo e non c’è stato alcun aiuto visibile in vista per compensare la situazione. Ma un certo membro della tua chiesa, che in molte occasioni si è fermato dal nostro negozio in chiesa per prendere una bottiglia d’acqua, alla fine ha notato lo stato di caduta del negozio, ha chiesto e alla fine ha saputo cosa stava succedendo. Esattamente una settimana prima, lo stesso uomo è venuto da mia moglie mentre io non ero nei paraggi, e il negozio si è riempito di nuove disposizioni di nuovo al livello che non era mai stato prima. Sono rimasto senza parole quando sono tornato e ho potuto vedere questo e anche quando ho sentito cosa mi ha detto mia moglie. Per la prima volta in così tanti anni ho trovato difficile dormire in 7 giorni, dopo che ho avuto modo di parlare con quest’uomo e ho sentito la forza trainante dietro la sua azione per noi – imparando da lui che ha agito solo in base alla cultura di fraternità e disciplina che la sua chiesa aveva avuto in lui. Ha cambiato non solo la vita di un uomo, una donna e i nostri figli, ma la speranza di un’intera generazione è stata toccata oggi. Poiché vivo tutta la mia vita sia come uomo che come famiglia, non ho mai fatto niente di questo onorevole, né ho ricevuto cure e aiuti simili da parte di nessuno prima. Non mi ha invitato a venire qui e testimoniare dopo aver fatto questo, da quello che ho osservato, lo ha fatto e ha dimenticato. Ma sono qui oggi per testimoniare di questo, sia per questa chiesa che per il Dio che insegni. Non potevo nemmeno aiutare, ma venivo qui con tutta la mia famiglia per testimoniare di me stesso il tipo di chiesa che fa questo. Questo mi ha tenuto da solo per alcuni giorni, perché un forte fardello mi è stato messo e non potevo avere pace finché non sono venuto qui, ora che sono qui, l’esperienza qui mi sembra un’altra famiglia che ho da qualche parte che non ho mai incontrato prima . Sono qui per confessare che c’è una pace insolita nella mia vita, come non ho mai sentito prima e il vostro ricevimento verso di noi mi sta uccidendo. E voglio dire questo, che come famiglia e io, vogliamo ufficialmente diventare membri di questa chiesa e di questa grande famiglia che non abbiamo mai incontrato in tempo, per favore, accettaci per i tuoi numeri. A nome della mia famiglia, rendo grazie a Dio, rendo grazie a questo uomo di questa chiesa che ci ha raggiunti, e rendo grazie al Dio che è adorato qui “.
La chiesa era piena di gioia e di festa a causa di ciò che Dio usava quel giovane per fare in mezzo a loro. Le canzoni e gli inni del culto che erano cantati per celebrare Dio per le Sue opere potenti, toccavano l’anima e la mente si muovevano, molti furono commossi fino alle lacrime nell’assemblea della chiesa quel giorno, anche dopo essere tornati a casa, l’impatto clamoroso di ciò che sentivano in chiesa in quel particolare giorno non si potrebbe mai distinguere dalle loro menti. Era un giorno di gioia. Tutti sono andati a casa con tanta pace dentro di loro, era la pace che sarebbe durato con loro per sempre, perché la storia sarebbe rimasta per sempre nelle loro menti. La notizia di questo si diffuse rapidamente e molte altre persone si unirono alla chiesa la settimana seguente, il risveglio era arrivato nella piccola città da quell’unica mossa di un fratello – questo è il modo in cui Dio raggiunge i Suoi propositi, con poco o niente – il piccolo voi fare oggi non è troppo piccolo, può spostare le montagne.
La storia di cui sopra non è né una vera storia dal vivo né un’esperienza che io abbia avuto io stesso nella vita, è una storia che ho accuratamente messo insieme io stesso come una parabola ai fini dell’illustrazione, in modo da permetterti di avere una chiara espressione del natura del mio messaggio per te oggi.
