Earlier this week, you may remember that we shared a video of a young bombing survivor

singing the song “It Is Well With My Soul.” Today, I want to share with you a bit of backstory behind

that timeless hymn.

The writer of the song, Horatio Spafford, lived through one of life’s deepest sorrows

when he lost all four of his children in a tragic accident. I simply cannot imagine

the kind of pain that comes with a loss of this scale, but the praise that Spafford offered amidst

his grief is incredible.

Whatever season you’re walking through today, I encourage you to lean on the Lord to provide

Italy asks the UN for the “International Day against Christianophobia”

in Nigeria today dozens of Christians have been murdered in an attack on a church during Sunday mass. A few days earlier, ISIS had killed a group of Christians after making them kneel as in a now known macabre blood ritual. Then a Christian girl, Deborah Samuel, was stoned and her body set on fire for “blasphemy” charges. In fact, every day in the largest country in Africa there is a massacre of Christians on an average of 13 every day.

On March 15, after the massacre in the mosques of Christchurch, New Zealand, the UN established the “International Day to Combat Islamophobia”. We cannot accept – as Christians, as lay people and as free men – that the daily massacre of Christians as Christians, the destruction of their churches, schools and communities in odium fidei, is not recognized as a specific crime by the international community.

Let’s consider just a few attacks on churches:

Sri Lanka (21 April 2019): Easter Sunday, terrorists attack three churches and hotels; 359 people are killed and more than 500 injured.

Nigeria (20 April 2014): Easter Sunday, terrorists set a packed church on fire, 150 dead.

Pakistan (27 March 2016): after religious services on Easter Sunday, terrorists hit a park where Christians had gathered; more than 70 deaths, mostly women and children.

Iraq (October 31, 2011): terrorists attack a church in Baghdad during the service. 60 Christians, including women, children and babies, are killed.

Nigeria (8 April 2012): Easter Sunday, bombs against two packed churches; more than 50 Christians killed.

Egypt (9 April 2017): Palm Sunday, attack on two packed churches; 45 dead.

Nigeria (25 December 2011): during the Christmas services, terrorists shoot at three churches; 37 dead.

Egypt (11 December 2016): a suicide attack in two churches causes the death of 29 Christians.

Indonesia (13 May 2018): attack on three churches; 13 dead.

Egypt (January 1, 2011): terrorists hit a church in Alexandria during New Year’s Mass; 21 Christians killed.

Philippines (January 27, 2019): terrorists attack a cathedral; 20 dead.

Indonesia (December 24, 2000): on Christmas Eve, terrorists shoot several churches; 18 dead.

Pakistan (15 March 2015): suicide bombers kill 14 Christians in attacks on two churches.

Egypt (29 December 2017): Muslim gunmen shoot a church in Cairo; 9 dead.

Egypt (January 6, 2010): after the Orthodox Christmas mass, 6 Christians are killed as they leave the church.

Russia (18 February 2018): attack on a church, 5 dead.

France (26 July 2016): ISIS attack on a church, where the priest Jacques Hamel is killed.

In Nigeria alone we are talking about 60,000 Christians killed between 2009 and 2021, 17,500 churches and 2,000 Christian schools destroyed. Numerous NGOs have come to openly denounce a “genocide” of Christians.

If a single horrendous attack on a mosque, which resulted in the deaths of 51 Muslims, was enough for the United Nations to establish an “international day to combat Islamophobia”, why do so many attacks on churches, which have killed thousands of lives Christians, was it not enough for the UN to establish an “International Day to Combat Christianophobia”?

The Italian authorities must immediately take charge of the United Nations to recognize the “International Day to combat Christianophobia”. To fight a crime, you must first give it a name.

It is our honor as Christians, as lay people and as free men. It is about the West, its civilization and its freedoms.
