The Sound of the Shofar is the Ultimate Wake Up Call! When the shofar is blown, it’s a message to all of us to take stock of our lives and seek ways to grow and improve ourselves. By Rabbi Ari Enkin, Rabbinic Director, United with Israel It is somewhat known that the reason Yom Kippur, the tenth day of the Hebrew month of Tishrei, was chosen as the day of atonement was because it was the day that God forgave the Jewish people for the sin of the Golden Calf. God said, “just as I have forgiven your sin on this day, I will forgive your sins on this day every year forever more.” What is not as widely known, however, is that Rosh Hashana, the first of day Tishrei, was chosen as the day of judgement, based on the story of Adam and Eve. The Midrash says that Adam and Eve were created on the first of Tishrei and it was on that same day that they committed the sin of eating the forbidden fruit. As it says, “In the first hour [of the first of Tishrei / Rosh Hashana], God decided to create man…in the third hour, He gathered the dust to create him, in the fourth hour He molded the dust to the shape of man…in the seventh hour, He blew into him the breath of life, at the eighth hour, He brought Adam and Eve into the Garden of Eden, in the ninth hour He commanded them not to eat the forbidden fruit, in the tenth hour they sinned, in the eleventh hour God judged them, in the twelfth hour God forgave them.” As one can see, that sixth day of Creation, the first day in the life of Adam and Eve, was sure an “action packed” day. God said that “just as I have judged you on this day, I will judge all mankind on this day forever more.” However, the question is asked. We are told that the shofar plays a role in God judging us with mercy and compassion. As it says “On Rosh Hashana God sits on the throne of strict judgement but when the Jewish people blow the shofar, He gets up and sits on the throne of mercy.” So…Where was the “shofar” in the story of Adam and Eve that earned them the merit for forgiveness and a favorable judgement. https://unitedwithisrael.org/the-sound-of-the-shofar-is-the-ultimate-wake-up-call/ It is explained that there is indeed a shofar in the story of Adam and Eve, as well. The Torah says that after their sin, “they heard God’s voice”. God famously said to them “Ayeka” – “Where are you?”. This “Where are you?” was not a literal question as to where they were physically located. “Where are you?” is the proverbial question we must ask ourselves all the time, especially at this time of year, and especially on Rosh Hashana: Where are we in our relationships with our fellow man? Where are we in our relationship with God? Where are we in our behavior? And so on. Adam and Eve were indeed moved by “their call of the shofar” and repented. God then got up from his throne of strict judgement and sat on his throne of mercy. (We are told that they were initially meant to be sentenced to death for their sin but God decided to merely exile them from the Garden of Eden instead.) This is exactly the role of the shofar each and every year on Rosh Hashana. It is God’s voice calling out to us, intended to stir us, and inspire us to change our ways. When we answer the call of the shofar just like Adam and Eve answered the call of their shofar, we too will benefit from God getting up from His throne of strict judgement and moving over to His throne of mercy. May we all contemplate the call of “Where are you?” and merit to be sealed for blessed new year!

Non solo Lampedusa e la Sardegna, è assalto anche alle coste siciliane, con un’ondata di sbarchi fantasma. Con tutti i rischi del caso:

Sono almeno due gli sbarchi “fantasma” certi. Ma dei clandestini potrebbero essere stati “scaricati” fra Zingarello e Cannatello. E questo lo si ipotizza sulla base del fatto che 8 extracomunitari sono stati notati e videoripresi mentre vagavano sul ciglio della strada. Sono ore di caso.

Sbarco “fantasma” sulla spiaggia di Capobianco a Cattolica Eraclea. Un barcone, di circa 10 metri, è riuscito a raggiungere l’arenile senza che si innescassero allarmi. I clandestini che erano a bordo, non è chiaro quanti fossero, sono fuggiti. All’interno dello scafo è rimasto un telefono cellulare, mentre sulla sabbia ci sono ancora dei vestiti bagnanti e tanti sacchi neri. Lo sbarco sarebbe avvenuto all’alba.

Di questo sbarco – composto verosimilmente da tunisini – nessuno delle forze dell’ordine, deputate a fronteggiare il fenomeno dell’immigrazione clandestina, sapeva nulla a quanto pare. La scoperta è stata fatta da un giornalista. Roba da matti.

Approdo, altrettanto misterioso, anche a Torre Salsa a Siculiana dove la Guardia di finanza ha già sequestrato il barcone. Carabinieri, polizia e gli stessi uomini delle Fiamme gialle stanno effettuando – in maniera capillare – un rastrellamento del territorio per riuscire ad intercettare i migranti sbarcati. A quanto pare, qualcuno degli extracomunitari in fuga sarebbe stato già bloccato.

L’associazione ambientalista “MareAmico” ha immortalato – con una ripresa video – 8 clandestini che camminavano sul ciglio della strada fra Cannatello e Zingarello. C’è stato un altro sbarco “fantasma”? Si chiede la stessa associazione? Non è escluso naturalmente che i migranti possano essere stati “scaricati” davanti la costa da un’imbarcazione che ha poi ripreso il largo. Carabinieri e Capitaneria di porto si stanno interessando di quest’ultimo caso.

Iran Banned from International Judo for Boycotting Israel
The IJF said that the Iran Judo Federation was suspended from “all competitions, administrative and social activities organized or authorized” by the IJF.
The International Judo Federation (IJF) on Wednesday announced it had officially suspended Iran over its directive to its Judoka Saeid Mollaei to withdraw from a recent competition to avoid a contest against Israel’s Sagi Muki.

The IJF said that the Iran Judo Federation was suspended from “all competitions, administrative and social activities organized or authorized” by the IJF.

During the 2019 World Championships in Tokyo in August, Mollaei lost to Belgian judoka Matthias Casse on purpose to avoid a faceoff with Muki. He was acting on direct orders from the Iranian authorities, which used his family’s well-being as leverage.

Mollaei subsequently left for Berlin, where he is currently in the process of seeking asylum.

In its statement, the IJF underscored that Iran’s conduct was “in gross contradiction” with the letter sent to the IJF in May by Iran’s Judo Federation, which confirmed that it would “fully respect the Olympic Charter and its non-discrimination principle.”

Iran’s National Olympic Committee (NOC) sent the letter, which was signed by Reza Salehi Amiri, President of Iran’s NOC, and Arash Miresmaeli, President of the Iranian Judo Federation.

Furthermore, Iran’s actions “constitute a serious breach and gross violation of the Statutes of the IJF, its legitimate interests, its principles and objectives as well as of, in particular, but not limited to, the IJF Code of Ethics and the Olympic Charter,” the organization stated.

The IJF Executive Committee stated that “such conduct is intolerable,” and consequently has decided “to initiate a disciplinary procedure against the Iran Judo Federation and to submit the case to the IJF Disciplinary Commission.”

For years, Israeli athletes have faced boycotts and other obstacles in sporting events involving Arab and Muslim countries.

In February 2018, Israeli judoka Tohar Butbul won a bronze medal after his Iranian opponent intentionally gained weight to avoid competing with him.

Earlier that month, the United World Wrestling organization banned Iranian athlete Alireza Karimi from competition for six months for intentionally losing to a Russian competitor in the quarter-final of the U-23 World Championship in Poland in November 2017 in order not to have to compete against Israeli opponent Uri Kalashnikov. Karimi’s coach, Hamidreza Jamshidi, was banned for two years.

In February 2017, Iranian karate athlete Majid Hassaninia refused to compete against an Israeli opponent at the 21st Open de Paris – Karate Premier League in France.

Anti-Israel ‘Human Rights Watch’ links to BDS are overwhelming
September 28, 2019
Amicus
briefs filed by Israeli watchdog groups (including NGO Monitor),
includes overwhelming evidence of Shakir’s BDS activity.

Both
ostensibly and legally, the Omar Shakir case that came before the
Israeli High Court on September 24 is not about Human Rights Watch (HRW)
per se.

The formal question is whether Shakir, the “Israel and
Palestine Director” at HRW, violated both the terms of his visa and the
law that mandates the exclusion from Israel of leaders of the BDS
movement.

The government’s case, reinforced by amicus briefs
filed by Israeli watchdog groups (including NGO Monitor), includes
overwhelming evidence of Shakir’s BDS activity. HRW’s legal team argues
that the case is political, asserting that Israel is targeting HRW for
alleged human rights work that is critical of Israel.

The organization claims that Shakir’s BDS work ended when he arrived in Israel in 2016.

The
Jerusalem District Court was unimpressed by the HRW spin, and its
ruling accepted the government’s position. Shakir was nevertheless
allowed to stay in the country pending the High Court appeal.

Although
its language is narrowly legal and technical, this case reflects major
issues not only for Israel but in the wider realms of lawfare, soft
power, and public diplomacy.

The arguments on human rights and
nebulous aspects of international law are proxies for a multi-front war
that has been escalating for 20 years around soft power de-legitimacy.

This
21st-century political, legal, and economic war seeks to demonize and
thereby destroy Israel, much as the wars fought by armies and missiles
attempted to defeat the Jewish state on the battlefield.
Leader in attacks on Israel

From
its opening shots almost 20 years ago, HRW has been a leader in the
attacks against Israel, and the Shakir case is an important milestone in
this history. HRW brings an annual budget of $92 million ($641 million
over the past decade) to the battlefront and provides a vast array of
skilled social and mainstream media warriors.

The image of a
small group of volunteers sacrificing their spare time to promote
universal human rights values is a façade. These are highly paid
mercenaries waging propaganda wars with all the weapons money can buy.

HRW
is a leader in antisemitic campaigns to demonize and single out Israel,
with a particular emphasis on BDS. The organization’s leadership is
obsessed with Israel, and their resources badly outmatch the
budget-starved Israeli Foreign Ministry.

Far from the claim that
Shakir was not doing BDS during his almost three years in Israel, the
evidence clearly shows that this agenda constitutes the vast majority of
his and HRW’s activities on Israel – from the failed attempt to
pressure Airbnb to join in the demonization to the international soccer
federation campaign (another failure).

Detailed analysis
indicates that notwithstanding a few token reports criticizing Hamas
that were designed to deflect criticism, HRW’s target is unequivocally
Israel.

All these factors, and the wider demonization, are at the
core of the Shakir case. Politically, this case is about HRW and BDS
warfare, and whether, after numerous defeats, the Israeli government has
a viable counter-strategy.

(Had the various officials and
ministries involved had a coherent strategy in place in 2016, Shakir and
HRW would never have received a work visa in the first place, and the
court sessions, media focus, and accompanying human rights theater would
have been avoided.)
Win-win for HRW

The importance of this
case and the worldwide stage it provides for HRW’s anti-Israel campaign
was highlighted in July, when Shakir’s hearing was initially scheduled.
The top five officials of HRW, led by Executive Director Kenneth Roth,
arrived in Israel for a full-scale diplomatic and media blitz (though
at the last minute, the court postponed the hearing, short-circuiting
their plans.)

For them, the case is a win-win: if the judges
overrule the lower court, this will be presented as a great victory for
HRW over the hated and anti-democratic Israeli government. And if Shakir
loses and is deported, HRW will declare a great victory in showing the
world how “Israel oppresses brave human rights defenders.”

Shakir
and HRW’s leaders have already waged a very successful campaign in the
international media. They project an invented image of a politically
neutral organization promoting the moral principles of human rights, and
overcoming intense opposition by the “far right” Israeli government.

would seem that someone with any common sense, knowing that Trump

pause to use chemical weapons you have produced on people you claim to

you will help blame those chemical weapons attacks on? Chlorine is not
that difficult to obtain & it wouldn’t be beyond Turkey’s ability to
supply it to the remaining rebels since they are also against Assad.
They were the ones buying all the stolen oil helping to fund the rebels
after all.

Turkey is a major player in the area & have proven
they were even willing to lay a trap for Russian fighter-bombers which
nearly invited retaliation from Russia. There was a reason why the US
& other NATO allies removed their aircraft operating out of Incirlik
against ISIS after Turkey laid that trap for those Russian aircraft
that momentarily violated Turkish airspace because Russia was attacking
their Turkmen allies in Northern Syria. They were only able to
accomplish that because of the previous agreements to avoid possible
incidents by warning NATO in advance of strikes allowing Turkey to
already have F-16s in an ambush position for those momentary airspace
violations. There is no ability to scramble interceptors from Turkey to
get there quickly enough to attack those Russian aircraft unless they
were already waiting on them. That is why Russia placed the S-400
systems in the area which can reach Turkish aircraft all the way to
Incirlik airbase & why NATO moved their aircraft out of that line of
fire since it was Turkey that had caused it in spite of publicly having
to “support” the actions of Turkey as they did at the time. Nobody,
including NATO, believed the story Turkey was trying to sell.

We are told that three barren women were remembered and blessed with a child on Rosh Hashana: Sarah, Rachel, and Chana. The question is asked: Why is this information important? Is there a common denominator between these three women?

It is explained that there is indeed a connection between these three women and the explicit fact that their prayers were answered. In all three cases, these women were somehow involved with praying or otherwise expressing concern for others. In some cases, they even prayed for others before they prayed for themselves. We are taught that those who pray for the needs of others will they themselves be answered first!

Regarding Sarah, we are told that Abraham had previously prayed that Abimelech be cured from his illness. Therefore, Abraham’s personal prayers for healing, namely, for his wife Sara, were answered first. Abraham prayed for someone else, and God rewarded him by answering his prayers.

Regarding Rachel, we are told that Rachel also worried about someone else. Rachel allowed her sister Leah to marry Jacob, who was truly expecting to marry Rachel. When Leah, and not Rachel, was brought into the wedding chamber, Rachel remained silent so as not to let her sister be shamed and rejected on “her” wedding night.

Rachel allowing her sister to marry her finance in order to save her sister embarrassment is truly a heroic act of self-sacrifice. God noted how caring and considerate Rachel was to Leah and in that merit answered her prayers years later when she was barren.

Regarding Chana, she too was barren for many years. Her prayers were answered and she became pregnant not because she wanted to have a child for her own interest, but rather because she wanted to give birth to child whose life could be dedicated to serving God. Again, it was a selfless request, so her prayers were answered.

Maybe this is the secret of having our prayers answered on Rosh Hashana: Pray for someone else! Do you know someone with similar needs as yours? Maybe you need a better medical report? Maybe you need a bit of a raise in order to get by? Maybe you are looking for a spouse? Well, try praying for others in a similar situation, and maybe, just maybe, your prayers will be answered… both for your benefit and theirs!
