Quella messa in atto dalla LTA è una vera e propria marcia indietro rispetto alle regole vigenti, che consentono ai giocatori di identificarsi liberamente nel genere che preferiscono: da sabato prossimo non sarà più così. Agli individui nati come maschi sarà possibile competere, almeno all’interno dei tornei sotto la giurisdizione della LTA, soltanto nella categoria maschile. La novità non riguarderà le partite internazionali e dunque del circuito WTA o ATP.

Negli Usa, l’idea di Trump trova un terreno fertile: lo scorso aprile la Camera dei Rappresentanti ha approvato un divieto per le atlete transgender di entrare a far parte di squadre sportive femminili in scuole e college destinatari di fondi federali, proibendo agli istituti scolastici di permettere a qualcuno il cui “s**o assegnato alla nascita sia maschile” di gareggiare insieme alle donne.
