Tra il 20 e il 21 ottobre scorsi, infatti, alcune importanti raffinerie di petrolio nell’Europa centrale sono state teatro di esplosioni e incendi in un arco temporale estremamente ristretto. Gli impianti in questione condividono un elemento comune: processano greggio russo o appartengono a società con legami diretti con Mosca. La coincidenza ha immediatamente sollevato interrogativi sulla natura degli eventi, con autorità locali che non escludono alcuna ipotesi, inclusa quella di atti deliberati.

Il primo episodio si è verificato a mezzogiorno del 20 ottobre presso la raffineria PETROTEL-LUKOIL di Ploiesti, nel sud della Romania. L’impianto, di proprietà (come del resto è intuibile dal nome) di una controllata del colosso russo LUKOIL, era stato spento già il precedente 17 ottobre per un’ispezione tecnica programmata, quando un’esplosione ne ha scosso la struttura.

Poche ore dopo, nella serata dello stesso giorno, un’esplosione seguita da un violento incendio ha colpito la Danube Refinery di Szazhalombatta, in Ungheria, situata a meno di 30 km dal sud di Budapest. L’impianto, di proprietà della compagnia petrolifera ungherese MOL, è la più grande e moderna raffineria del Paese.

Il quadro si è ulteriormente complicato il 21 ottobre, quando si sono diffuse voci circa un incendio che si sarebbe verificato presso la raffineria SLOVNAFT di Bratislava, in Slovacchia, impianto anch’esso controllato dal gruppo MOL e alimentato con greggio russo via oleodotto Druzhba.
