Maria Valtorta herself, in a 1949 text, expressed reservations about Anna Katharina Emmerick’s visions (regarding the Passion, but with broader implications).

Valtorta stated that Emmerick’s pages “have been greatly labored over by men” and that “The dust of humanity has corrupted the purity of truth. Men have wanted to add to God’s work and have defaced it.”

Valtorta emphasized that her narrative contained the “pure, historical truth,” unlike Emmerick’s, which, in her opinion, had been embellished and altered by those who transcribed it.
