Thus, last Sunday, the award ceremony took place at the Teatro Valli in Reggio, introduced by a speech by the mayor.

Peace doesn’t require conditions.”

Criticism also came from members of the center-left coalition, starting with Azione, which called for the revocation of the recognition “due to its manifest inadequacy and non-compliance with the values represented by our flag.” It’s the result of those who seek easy consensus and end up getting burned.

Ma l’umiliazione più grande è arrivata proprio dalla Albanese che, mentre il sindaco parlava, ha iniziato a ridere e scuotere la testa coprendosi gli occhi con le mani. Non paga ha pronunciato un discorso delirante con il tricolore sulle spalle affermando che: “Non bisogna giustificare i terroristi di Hamas, ma capirli e chiedersi cosa vogliono e cosa chiedono: la Storia si ricorderà che sono riusciti a portare la Palestina al centro della discussione, stanno animando una rivoluzione globale, che ci sta facendo pensare a chi siamo noi”. Poi l’affondo contro il primo cittadino “il sindaco si è sbagliato, ha detto una cosa che non è vera, mi scusi ma è così. La pace non ha bisogno di condizioni”.

Critiche sono arrivate anche da esponenti della coalizione di centrosinistra a cominciare da Azione che ha chiesto la revoca del riconoscimento “per manifesta inadeguatezza e non corrispondenza ai valori rappresentati dalla nostra bandiera”. È il risultato di chi cerca il facile consenso e finisce per rimanerne scottato.

I can only agree with almost everything Professor Trabucco argued in response to my comment (1). Indeed, on the Duc in Altum blog, he writes (2):

“A saint who obeys a disciplinary measure that is unjust but not contrary to the faith (as in the case of Padre Pio) performs an act of heroic self-denial, because he recognizes that even in harshness and iniquity, the command does not break the bond with the revealed deposit. The situation is different, however, when an ecclesiastical authority commands something that contradicts the faith: in that case, the order is no longer authentically disciplinary, but transforms into a deviation that strikes at the very rationale of the authority. Here, refusal is not rebellion, but fidelity.

Given this principle—which I make my own without gloss—as valid, I find it difficult to accept the exception Trabucco adds immediately afterwards:

It is true that “discipline, as a visible order, also serves to safeguard the unity of the Church. And unity is part of the supernatural common good of the Mystical Body.” But the unity achieved through obedience is the effect, not the cause, of the profession of the same Faith: one is united in the Church under the authority of the Roman Pontiff because one believes the same doctrine, not the other way around. I would add that anyone who contradicts, adulterates, or silences the Faith is the first to cause scandal, especially if he finds himself in the position of coercive force of an ecclesiastical Superior over a priest or religious. It is the duty of every baptized person to defend and proclaim sound doctrine and to denounce anyone in authority who abuses it, causing grave scandal to the simple, who are rightly accustomed to obeying—instinctively, I would almost say—the authority of the Hierarchy and consider its deviation unthinkable under normal circumstances.

In essence: given the evident general disobedience of Authority at all levels, how can a priest or a simple believer subjected to it remain obedient unless they continue to obey God rather than men?

This is the true sacrifice of the will that the mystics speak of: knowing how to be obedient unto death, even death on a cross, in obedience to God. But never, under any circumstances, can one even imagine courteously obeying heretical and schismatic Superiors, for fear of shattering the apparent unity of their Church “with acts of a schismatic nature.”

Because the unity they claim is a simulacrum, a fiction, a grotesque imposture behind which hides the indifferentism of the synodal pantheon, which includes both the conservatives of Summorum Pontificum and the LGBTQ+ progressives of James Martin, Our Lady of Fatima and Pachamama, the Vetus and the Novus Ordo.
