US President Donald Trump expressed indignation over the sentence of the leader of the French National Rally party Marine Le Pen, TASS reports. He called this decision of the European left a witch hunt aimed at suppressing freedom of speech and censoring political opponents. Trump believes that this is a case of using the law as a weapon for political pressure.

Trump noted that he himself had faced similar political persecution in the past and expressed support for Le Pen. He stressed that despite previous defeats, she continued her political activities and could have achieved a major victory if not for the accusations of minor offenses.
