La celebrazione del MLK Day, sostenuta dal sindacato top teachers’, disinvita il rabbino a sostenere Israele

Un rabbino di San Diego è stato disinvitato a dare una benedizione a Martin Luther King Jr. Celebrazione del giorno sponsorizzata dalla Federazione Americana degli Insegnanti (AFT) per il suo sostegno a Israele, secondo il rabbino, la sua sinagoga e l’organizzazione che ha ospitato l’evento.

La sinagoga Tifereth Israel ha annunciato domenica che il leader della congregazione, il rabbino Hanan Leberman, è stato escluso dalla 38a celebrazione di tutti i popoli dell’Alleanza San Diego “ a causa del suo legame con Israel.”

“Abbiamo preso la difficile decisione di chiedere a due relatori invitati di allontanarsi dai loro ruoli di parola, ha scritto l’organizzazione. “All’epoca credevamo di agire nel migliore interesse di proteggere i partecipanti e preservare lo spirito dell’evento.”

Leberman ha osservato che King si è ripetutamente espresso a sostegno di Israele e del sionismo durante la sua vita, aggiungendo: “Escludermi dal parlare va contro il dott. Il messaggio di King—in particolare in questo momento storico, quando gli ebrei stanno sperimentando l’aumento più significativo dei crimini d’odio di qualsiasi gruppo.”

La notizia della decisione dell’organizzatore dell’evento’ di rimuovere Leberman dalla carica di relatore e del coinvolgimento dell’AFT nell’evento arriva mentre il sindacato degli insegnanti’ abbraccia sempre più l’attivismo anti-israeliano.

Nel mese di ottobre, una gilda dell’AFT di San Diego ha inviato una lettera ai suoi membri difendendo il “dal fiume al mare, la Palestina sarà un canto free” come un grido di pace “rallying,” il Faro libero di Washington segnalato.

La gilda ha aggiunto che descrivere lo slogan—popolarizzato da gruppi terroristici e utilizzato come appello per sradicare Israel—as antisemita significa “silenziare gli attivisti filo-palestinesi.”

L’estate scorsa, l’AFT ha contribuito a raccogliere fondi per un’organizzazione umanitaria che avrebbe collaborato con le agenzie gestite da Hamas a Gaza e ha leader che hanno elogiato i terroristi di Hamas Faro Libero segnalato.

La cancellazione degli ebrei da parte della NEA ha portato la Commissione per l’Istruzione e la Forza Lavoro della Camera ad aprire un’indagine sul sindacato.
