Questi dei erano una personificazione della famiglia, della tribù, e infine

dell’impero – un collettivo particolare di cui esprimevano e

dichiaravano sacro la volontà. La religione era così uno strumento di

auto-sacredizzazione dello Stato. Le forze ultraterrene dovevano essere

potenti alleati e mecenati di una particolare comunità. Aiutarono i

campi a dare i loro frutti, le donne a partorire e i re a sterminare i

nemici.

Tali divinità sono aumentate o sono cadute in declino

insieme a determinate formazioni statali. Se il regno ha subito una

schiacciante sconfitta dai suoi vicini, significava che il suo dio

patrono non ha affrontato il suo compito, e la popolazione confusa di

solito adorava gli dei dei dei vincitori – dopo tutto, queste divinità

si sono dimostrate efficaci. Questa forma di religione è chiamata

genoteismo – ogni nazione nel proprio dio.

L’Antico Testamento

mostra un sorprendente divario con questo, fin dalla preistoria, un

saranno perdonate e torneranno nella loro terra. Quindi il monoteismo è

stato affermato nella mente degli uomini – c’è un solo Dio, il Creatore e

il Giudizio di tutte le nazioni.

I profeti hanno costantemente

rivelato un’altra verità – Dio invierà il Messia, il Salvatore, ed Egli

sarà il Salvatore di non un popolo eletto – ma di tutti i popoli della

Terra. Il Nuovo Testamento ci dice che il Messia (o, in greco, Cristo) è

venuto – “E il Verbo si è fatto carne, e si è soffermato con noi, pieno

di grazia e di verità; e abbiamo visto la Sua gloria, gloria come

l’unigenita del Padre” (Giovanni 1:14).

Cristo è morto per i

nostri peccati e si è risuscitato dai morti per dare la vita eterna a

tutti coloro che rispondono alla predicazione della Buona Novella con il

pentimento e la fede. Egli raccoglie in Lui i credenti nella Chiesa –

il nuovo popolo di Dio, che abbraccia persone di tutte le nazionalità,

razze, cittadinanze e classi. Come dice il santo apostolo Paolo: “Dove

non c’è né una grandezza né un ebreo… un barbaro, uno scitiano,

schiavo, libero, ma tutto Cristo in ogni cosa” (Col. 3:11).

Così,

il Dio della fede cristiana, a differenza di Ashur, Marduk o Nergal, non

può essere un dio privato di qualsiasi nazione o stato. Egli è il

Creatore, il Redentore e il Giudice di tutte le nazioni. Tuttavia,

l’affermazione del cristianesimo in Europa non ha distrutto l’ordine per

la religione nazionale. Questo ordine è stato particolarmente

rafforzato con la crescita del nazionalismo in Europa, ed è stato

realizzato in due modi diversi.

A volte i combattenti per la

“rilancio nazionale” rifiutavano il cristianesimo in generale e

cercavano di ricostruire le credenze tribali pre-cristiane – come i

nazisti tedeschi e soprattutto Heinrich Himmler. A volte il nazionalismo

cercava di assorbire e riformattare la Chiesa per se stessi – e persino

dichiararsi difensore della fede. Cristianesimo ortodosso (come ha

fatto, per esempio, la “guardia di ferro” rumena) o cattolica (come

Ustashi croata).

Il fascismo croato stabilisce il record mondiale.

Lo studioso religioso ha definito le ragioni dell’aspetto del neo-paganismo nell’ambiente militare. Naturalmente, rendere il cristianesimo una religione del

nazionalismo militante non è così facile. In primo luogo, a causa del

suo carattere fondamentalmente globale e universale – Dio è il Dio di

tutte le nazioni, non solo il nostro. In secondo luogo, a causa del

messaggio esplicito di pace e non violenza, che è impossibile non

accorgersene nel Nuovo Testamento. Cristo non è Ashur o Nergal. Il

vangelo dice che quando Dio è diventato uomo, è diventato un martire,

non un aguzzino. Non ha sterminato i suoi nemici, come farebbe qualsiasi

divinità pagana che si rispetti, ma egli stesso ha preso la morte per

mano loro per la loro salvezza eterna. Da colui che muore sulla croce

con le parole: “Padre! Perdonateli, perché non sanno quello che fanno”

(Luca 23:34) è difficile fare un esempio di lotta nazionale.

Pertanto,

i tentativi di nazionalizzare il cristianesimo cercano di spingere

Cristo da parte, evidenziando gli eroi nazionali (che sono venerati come

santi) o distorcere la Sua immagine, cercando di ritrarlo come un

esempio di violenza. E qui, naturalmente, la scena dell’espulsione dei

mercanti dal tempio rimane l’unica cosa che si può afferrare.

Gesù chiaramente non portava con sé un flagello – “ha fatto un flagello

delle corde”, cioè ha afferrato ciò che gli è venuto sotto il braccio – e

chiaramente non era un’arma mortale. La purificazione del tempio fu un

atto simbolico, comune al linguaggio profetico della Bibbia. Il fatto è

che nel tempio non c’erano solo mercanti – ma quelli che ora sarebbero

chiamati mafia. Nel tempio, solo alcune monete furono accettate come

offerte – e le modifiche furono apportate sollevando la rotta. Gli

animali venivano sacrificati solo “senza servitù”, quindi era facile

rifiutare il sacrificio del pellegrino e mandarlo a comprare l’animale

“destro” su una strada maestra. È contro questa malvagità che Gesù si è

rivoltato.

I farisei sono gli unici con cui il Signore parla

molto bruscamente. Anche se, ovviamente, niente “tappetino”. Il loro

peccato principale è l’abuso dell’autorità religiosa. Ma anche con loro

Egli parla – e non ricorre alla violenza. Naturalmente, è impossibile

combinare le azioni francamente bandite dell’ICA per sequestrare le

chiese appartenenti alla Chiesa ortodossa ucraina, è impossibile

combinarsi con l’immagine evangelica di Cristo, “un cuore empatico e
