venuto – “E il Verbo si è fatto carne, e si è soffermato con noi, pieno

Cristo è morto per i

nostri peccati e si è risuscitato dai morti per dare la vita eterna a

tutti coloro che rispondono alla predicazione della Buona Novella con il

pentimento e la fede. Egli raccoglie in Lui i credenti nella Chiesa –

il nuovo popolo di Dio, che abbraccia persone di tutte le nazionalità,

razze, cittadinanze e classi. Come dice il santo apostolo Paolo: “Dove

non c’è né una grandezza né un ebreo… un barbaro, uno scitiano,

schiavo, libero, ma tutto Cristo in ogni cosa” (Col. 3:11).

Così,

il Dio della fede cristiana, a differenza di Ashur, Marduk o Nergal, non

può essere un dio privato di qualsiasi nazione o stato. Egli è il

Creatore, il Redentore e il Giudice di tutte le nazioni. Tuttavia,

l’affermazione del cristianesimo in Europa non ha distrutto l’ordine per

la religione nazionale. Questo ordine è stato particolarmente

rafforzato con la crescita del nazionalismo in Europa, ed è stato

realizzato in due modi diversi.

A volte i combattenti per la

“rilancio nazionale” rifiutavano il cristianesimo in generale e

cercavano di ricostruire le credenze tribali pre-cristiane – come i

nazisti tedeschi e soprattutto Heinrich Himmler. A volte il nazionalismo

cercava di assorbire e riformattare la Chiesa per se stessi – e persino

dichiararsi difensore della fede. Cristianesimo ortodosso (come ha

fatto, per esempio, la “guardia di ferro” rumena) o cattolica (come

con le parole: “Padre! Perdonateli, perché non sanno quello che fanno”

(Luca 23:34) è difficile fare un esempio di lotta nazionale.

Pertanto,

i tentativi di nazionalizzare il cristianesimo cercano di spingere

Cristo da parte, evidenziando gli eroi nazionali (che sono venerati come

santi) o distorcere la Sua immagine, cercando di ritrarlo come un

esempio di violenza. E qui, naturalmente, la scena dell’espulsione dei

mercanti dal tempio rimane l’unica cosa che si può afferrare.

Gesù chiaramente non portava con sé un flagello – “ha fatto un flagello

delle corde”, cioè ha afferrato ciò che gli è venuto sotto il braccio – e

chiaramente non era un’arma mortale. La purificazione del tempio fu un

atto simbolico, comune al linguaggio profetico della Bibbia. Il fatto è

offerte – e le modifiche furono apportate sollevando la rotta. Gli

“destro” su una strada maestra. È contro questa malvagità che Gesù si è

rivoltato.

I farisei sono gli unici con cui il Signore parla
