No, for the first 300 years of Christianity’s existence, there was no persecution of Jews by Christians – in fact, from AD 30-70, the boot was more likely to be on the other foot, though Caiaphas in the NT makes it clear that Christians were regarded as putting the Jews at risk of a clamp-down by Rome. What happened after that, was that the Emperor Constantine decided to create a nominally Christian, but syncretistic, State religion. Sadly, the Church colluded with this design. For some reason, Constantine, who was not a particularly devout man, hated Judaism. My own guess is that he tried to get them on board with his state religion, and they showed his emissaries the door as soon as they talked about accommodating the Babylonian religion (which is, in fact the foundation of the church year – until then, if Christians kept feasts at all, it was the Jewish ones, just from a different perspective). It is a great tragedy that most of the Reformers did not appear to realise just how much of Constantine’s legacy needed to be overturned.
