I have never understood why the Palestinians required their own specialist promoters of refugee status, holding the extraordinary view that refugee status is something to be proud of, and to pass on to your children and your children’s children. The problem with al-Rishq’s statement is that the original inhabitants of the land are in fact the Jewish people. I think that they want the Palestinians to continue to be a thorn in Israel’s side. The other thing, though, is that because Allah is not the God of the Jewish and Christian Scriptures, Islam has no spiritual power to help people to become more holy. Judaism does, and so does Christianity, because, whichever of the two you believe to have more of the truth, the fact is that both have access to the same God, Who desires holiness from those who worship Him. In the late 19th and early 20th century, I believe that the Adversary was preparing the way for Nazism with all the social evolution and eugenics stuff, and one of his more minor sidelines was to elevate Norse naming elements above their later Christian equivalents – because of course the church did not allow children to be given names that implied bloodlust. So we end up with several generations of Hedwigs being told that their name means war battle. As if people naming in the spoken language of the time would have called anyone “war battle” anyway. Given that names are so important in the Bible, I believe that revealing the truth about them will help their bearers find their destiny in the Lord.

What I meant by “innocent until proven guilty” was not that I would disbelieve someone who was threatening me, but that I refuse to read a threat into the fact that a person has a surname such as Ali or Mustafa, if in fact the person is behaving him/herself and not saying or posting anything that would lead me to think that they had any wish to do otherwise.

I have to confess to being a complete Luddite and refusing to own a mobile phone, though how long that will be allowed is open to question. My reasoning is that I am not particularly mobile – currently spend much of the day sitting in front of my PC attempting to write a book – so most of the time I’m obtainable on my landline. And as regards implants and the like – as far as I’m concerned, my skin is my God-given boundary with the world, and if tattoos are unScriptural, then anything that goes any deeper, even without the Mark of the Beast, is as well.

There’s a comment in C.S. Lewis’s Screwtape Letters to the effect that, if the devil cannot get people to abandon ethics altogether, then he gets them to elevate one ethical imperative over all others. The question is – what happens to those who fail the test? Are they shipped out – or do they get to fight a lengthy and expensive appeal battle because although they are anti-Semitic, they also claim to be in danger from a Muslim government in their home country? It is not yet politically possible to advance any election cause on the basis of what will be good for sharia, and this is the reason why a focus on what is good for Gaza was part of the recent election in the UK, and features in the coming election in the US. Gaza is the acceptable face of the hoped-for Caliphate. Unless a country is at war, voters should be looking first and foremost at domestic policy, and only after that at foreign policy.
Having said that, I am not sure what the motivation of this mayor is. Is he looking to threaten Harris by saying that his town will not just vote “undecided”, but will actually back her opponent -e.g. might his position shift if she comes up with the right concessions? Or does he hope that, if Trump is elected with the help of Muslim voters, he will pragmatically modify his support for Israel? The logic of their position is that Israel commits aggression simply by existing on land that was once conquered by Islam, and is therefore deemed to belong to Islam in perpetuity. Israel’s only real option is to pull off feats which are not only militarily effective, but also hold Hamas and Hezbollah up to ridicule.
