I don’t understand why it is so difficult for many to understand what BXVI (Pope Benedetto XVI) did to save the Church. Yet it is so clear.
Many simple people, who I got to know during the conferences I organized, understood. Many traditionalist intellectuals, better equipped to understand the question, however are not.
Perhaps because they expected a Pope who would denounce the blackmail he had suffered, a combative Pope willing to defend the throne of Peter at any cost… a bit like the Jews expected a Messiah on a white horse at the head of an army that would liberate Israel from the Roman yoke…. and instead Jesus came to them, and they didn’t recognize him. Or rather, the simple ones recognized it… the scribes, Pharisees and doctors of the Temple did not.
If you read the writings of BXVI (Pope Benedetto XVI) you understand how he, in his life, wanted to follow the example of Jesus in every way. And he did so, allowing himself to be crucified spiritually but maintaining the munus, just as Jesus maintained his kingship and divinity until the end, returning it to the Father (“Father, into your hands I leave my spirit”).
BXVI (Pope Benedetto XVI) retained the munus and returned it to God who had given it to him, allowing his line of succession to be separated from that of Bergoglio.
