Infatti, a proposito di questa decisione della Commissione Europea, l’Osservatorio aveva scritto: “Cancellare la carica di Inviato Speciale ha dimostrato un evidente disinteresse dell’Unione Europea per la sorte di quelli che patiscono la persecuzione.”
La carica di “Inviato speciale della Commissione Europea per la libertà religiosa” era stata creata dalla Commissione Europea nel 2016, su richiesta dal Parlamento Europeo, con la nomina dello slovacco Ján Figel, già commissario europeo.

L’on. Ján Figel ha cercato comunque di svolgere il suo ruolo nel migliore dei modi – tramite iniziative, appelli, viaggi, interventi – nonostante il fatto che abbia avuto frequentemente le mani legate dovute a limitazioni di natura politica.
Adesso saranno i fatti a mostrare la reale “determinazione della Commissione Europea a garantire che il diritto [di praticare la fede] sia rispettato in tutto il mondo”, come ha annunciato il Vicepresidente della C.E., l’on. Schinas.
Commenta Marco Respinti, direttore dell’International Family News, nonché giornalista di Bitter Winter:
“Ora l’Europa deve affrontare seriamente tutte le violazioni della libertà religiosa nel mondo, a partire dal Paese che è il principale colpevole per violazioni della libertà dei credenti di qualsiasi fede: la LEGA ARABA che troppo spesso è rimasta fuori dai radar della Unione Europea”.
Ma oltre la Cina, l’Inviato Speciale della Commissione Europea dovrà preoccuparsi anche della sorte dei cristiani che patiscono la persecuzione nei paesi dell’Islam e dell’Induismo radicale.
Una persecuzione che non dà segnale di rallentarsi, anzi si accentua giorno dopo giorno.
Ecco qualche esempio di quello che è successo soltanto nelle ultime settimane:
In Cina, secondo Bitter Winter, dopo 5 mesi di chiusura, alcune chiese controllate dallo Stato hanno ottenuto il permesso di riaprire, ma dimostrano solo lealtà al Partito Comunista.
È il caso della chiesa cattolica di Lishiting, nella provincia centrale dello Henan, dove – fatto del tutto insolito – il sacerdote stesso che subisce la persecuzione confessa: “Solennemente issiamo la bandiera nazionale, a testimonianza del popolo che ha lavorato unito sotto la guida di Xi Jinping, che presiede il governo e il Partito\”.

In Iraq, la maggioranza degli iracheni cristiani spera di lasciare il Paese, a cause delle minacce delle milizie sciite contro la popolazione cristiana.
È quanto denuncia il sacerdote benedettino Benedict Kiely, fondatore della Nasarean.org, una realtà di aiuto ai cristiani perseguitati, sul “Daily Caller”, basato sui rapporti di Ong cristiane come l’Aiuto alla Chiesa che Soffre.
