Scienziati australiani asseriscono di aver definito una caratteristica del virus SARS-CoV-2 molto particolare che lo distinguerebbe dagli altri virus.
Secondo uno studio riportato dal quotidiano britannico Daily Mail, scienziati australiani, studiando la resistenza degli organismi viventi alle infezioni, avrebbero notato come il virus SARS-CoV-2 che causa la nota malattia COVID-19, sarebbe capace di legarsi straordinariamente bene alle cellule del nostro organismo pur essendo l’uomo un ospite per questi nuovo.
Il coronavirus si lega al recettore ACE2 tramite una proteina appuntita e, più forte è in grado di legarsi, meno è probabile che scompaia dal suo ospite. La scoperta rivendicata nello studio, consiste proprio nel fatto che il SARS-CoV-2 si sarebbe adattato più facilmente alle cellule umane più che in qualsiasi altra specie, persino meglio che negli stessi pipistrelli, dai quali si presume con ogni probabilità sia originario. Gli scienziati non sono riusciti a trovare nessun’altra specie, a parte la nostra, in cui questo nuovo coronavirus abbia avuto la stessa distribuzione.
\”Questo è un nuovo virus che non è mai stato nel corpo umano prima d\’ora, eppure ha un livello estremamente elevato di legame con i nostri recettori, il che è estremamente sorprendente\”, ha detto Nikolai Petrovsky, professore alla Flinders University e primo autore dello studio.
Petrovsky ha per altro osservato che i virus tendono ad adattarsi meglio quando vengono infettate nuove specie, tuttavia l\’agente patogeno COVID-19 pare \”essere stato completamente ottimizzato fin dal primo giorno senza la necessità di cambiare\”.

Gli scienziati dell\’Università di Cambridge hanno scoperto come fa il coronavirus a mimetizzarsi e passare inosservato le difese immunitarie per insinuarsi nell’ospite umano.
Il mimetismo molecolare è una strategia evolutiva adottata dai virus per sfruttare il meccanismo cellulare ospite. Il segreto del ‘successo’ del SARS-CoV-2 nei confronti dell’uomo consisterebbe proprio nella sua straordinaria capacità di passare ‘sotto al naso’ delle nostre difese immunitarie senza farsi notare, questo in parole povere l’abstract della ricerca condotta dagli specialisti della Cambridge University e pubblicata sulla rivista scientifica eLife.
Il SARS-CoV-2, virus responsabile della malattia COVID-19 che conosciamo bene, possiederebbe una sequenza di inserzione perfettamente combaciante con quella che si trova nel sito S1/S2 della proteina umana che controlla la possibilità di ingresso del coronavirus nelle nostre cellule.
I ricercatori ritengono che la pandemia globale di coronavirus sia in parte dovuta a questo punto di mimetismo, a seguito del quale il virus può usare l\’enzima nella specifica proteina per entrare nella cellula. Allo stesso tempo, SARS-CoV-2 interrompe il funzionamento di questa proteina, la cui bassa attività sulla superficie del tratto respiratorio porta ad un alterato riassorbimento dei liquidi e malattie respiratorie.
In parole molto semplici il virus è fatto in modo che quando entra in contatto con l’organismo umano conosce già la parola d’ordine per il lascia passare e va ad insediarsi nell\’apparato respiratorio dove trova le condizioni ideali per proliferare alterandone il funzionamento e causando la malattia COVID-19 finché il sistema immunitario non riesce finalmente a prendere provvedimenti. In alcuni casi, come purtroppo ben sappiamo, il sistema immunitario non riesce a prendere il sopravvento e la malattia può avere un decorso maligno.
Ad una conclusione molto simile erano giunti anche scienziati australiani in uno studio riportato dal quotidiano britannico Daily Mail la settimana scorsa.
