Dobbiamo quindi continuare a pregare per la sua incolumità e, la cosa più importante, ora più che mai è pregare per la sicurezza di quei cristiani che vivono ancora in Pakistan, oggetto di discriminazioni sistematiche e di persecuzioni.

Asia Bibi ha lasciato il Pakistan. La donna cristiana accusata di blasfemia è libera dallo scorso novembre, rimasta in una località segreta, mentre il governo fronteggiava l’ondata crescente delle proteste islamiste e ne arrestava i leader. Il lungo silenzio sul suo caso è servito a far sbollire la tensione e a salvarla: ora è in Canada al sicuro.

Dopo le restrizioni alla libertà religiosa sotto Obama, l’amministrazione Trump ha emanato nuove norme per rafforzare la possibilità per enti sanitari, medici, infermieri e soggetti vari di esercitare l’obiezione di coscienza rispetto ad aborti, sterilizzazioni, suicidi assistiti. «Ogni cittadino ha il diritto di vivere secondo gli insegnamenti della propria fede», ha detto il presidente al National Day of Prayer, sottolineando l’importanza della preghiera.

Un documento pubblicato nei giorni scorsi dalla Commissione teologica internazionale sul tema “La libertà religiosa per il bene di tutti” lascia irrisolto il nodo fondamentale aperto dalla dichiarazione conciliare Dignitatis Humanae, ovvero se ci sia un dovere, non solo delle persone e delle società (cosa che in essa viene chiaramente affermata) ma anche della politica verso la religione vera, cioè quella cattolica.

Ad aprile, sulla scia dei mesi precedenti, si sono verificati una serie di fatti di matrice anticristiana che quasi mai hanno guadagnato le pagine della cronaca nazionale, nonostante la loro gravità. Più volte è stato preso di mira il Santissimo Sacramento, con profanazioni del tabernacolo in Austria e Francia, fino al sacrilegio eucaristico di Trieste. E poi la profanazione al santuario piemontese di Fontanelle, le statue danneggiate, i poster della Madonna di Czestochowa con colori Lgbt, a conferma che le ideologie nichiliste alimentano l’odio verso Dio.

Proprio nei giorni in cui in Sri Lanka si massacravano i cristiani, nella prestigiosa università di Harvard si teneva una conferenza sulla tolleranza. Il relatore? Timothy Jacob Wise, praticamente il docente più ferocemente anticristiano degli Stati Uniti. Un Odifreddi all’ennesima potenza capace di dire che “tutti quelli che credono nella favola della Bibbia dovrebbero essere rinchiusi e detenuti”. Inutile stupirsi se il mondo accademico è così laicista.

La serie di attentati in Sri Lanka non fa che continuare una lunga scia di attacchi anticristiani, compiuti in occasione di una festività religiosa. A Natale, a Pasqua, nella Domenica delle Palme. In Nigeria, in Pakistan, in Egitto e in tanti altri luoghi al mondo. Quanto accaduto domenica è allarmante non soltanto per l’entità e la crudeltà delle violenze, ma perché mostra come il terrorismo islamico stia varcando confini sempre nuovi: intanto, l’Isis ha rivendicato gli attacchi attraverso la sua agenzia di propaganda Amaq. Oggi la comunità cristiana piange le sue vittime in numerosissimi funerali.
